At the MUHC, the Nursing Directorate has put in place many measures to promote well-being and a healthy balance between work and personal life.

  • Self-scheduling via new mobile app. As of the end of 2025, this platform will allow nursing staff to manage their work schedules directly from their mobile devices.
  • Choice of 8- or 12-hour shifts, depending on the unit
  • No mandatory overtime
  • Rotation of shifts (day–evening or day–night, with 50% guaranteed to be day shifts)
  • Two on-site childcare centres
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) available 24/7
  • Peer psychosocial support program
  • Employee Recognition Program, offering a variety of services and activities designed to strengthen staff appreciation and support a culture of recognition within the organization. Initiatives include:
    • Recognition of years of service
    • End-of-year holiday and milestone celebrations
    • Discounts on insurance, fitness and wellness activities, transportation, travel, and other products and services
    • Recognition Week, featuring meals, entertainment, and opportunities to relax with colleagues
