What is the Patient Support Line?
The Patient Support Line is a telephone hotline for adult patients who were recently discharged from the MUHC.
The service helps ensure continuity of care, safety and support during the first weeks after hospitalization.
Who can use the Patient Support Line?
If you were discharged within the last 30 days from one of the areas listed below, you can use the dedicated phone line to speak to a nurse about any new symptoms, complications, or other concerns related to your discharge. Your caregivers can also use the hotline.
The Patient Support Line is available to patients who stayed on an inpatient unit in one of the following services:
- Cardiac Surgery
- Cardiology
- General Surgery (MGH and RVH)
- Gynecology
- Gynecology Oncology
- Hepatobiliary
- Internal Medicine (MGH, RVH, Lachine and Neuro)
- Neurology
- Neurosurgery
- Oncology
- Orthopedics (MGH and RVH)
- Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery
- Plastic Surgery (MGH and RVH)
- Thoracic Surgery
- Trauma Surgery
- Urology (MGH and RVH)
- Vascular Surgery

NOTE: If a nurse or other health professional has been designated as your first contact, please try to contact them first. If their office is closed, or if it is urgent and they aren't available, you can call the Patient Support Line.
FAQ
You will need your Quebec health insurance card (RAMQ), or the Quebec health insurance card of the patient you are calling for.
You are not eligible to use the Patient Support Line, but there are other ways to seek help:
- Contact your affiliated clinic or care team directly.
- Contact your family doctor.
- Call 8-1-1 to speak to an Info-Santé nurse.
No, appointments cannot be booked, cancelled, or changed through the Patient Support Line.
If you haven't received a call for an expected follow-up appointment, the Patient Support Line nurse can help figure out why and explain what needs to be done.
If you have a new symptom or complication, the Patient Support Line nurse will assess you and, if needed, refer you to the right clinic.
Note: Referrals made through the Patient Support Line do not replace already scheduled appointments.
