Sustainable development is an organizational priority at the MUHC. We are committed to advancing sustainability in healthcare by promoting environmental stewardship, social equity, and responsible economic practices.
Key initiatives include:
- Sustainable Development Committee
- Strategic plan and annual report
- Waste Management Plan
- Commitment to align with Quebec’s sustainable development strategy and guidelines
- Cross-disciplinary projects, including:
- carbon footprint assessment
- analysis of building vulnerability to climate change
- MUHC-wide sustainability ambassadors – employees leading sustainable practices
- Support for eco-friendly travel travel through public transit discounts (BIXI, OPUS)
- Greening projects – tree planting, gardening, and other environmental activities
- Social economy initiatives – collaborations with local organizations to support social impact
- Sustainability projects, including reusable gowns, rechargeable batteries, and Food Services programs
- Decarbonization roadmap: The MUHC has adopted a carbon-neutrality roadmap with support from ASPQ, the City of Montreal, and Dunsky Energie+Climat.
By embracing a comprehensive approach to sustainability, the MUHC is helping shape a healthier, more equitable, and more resilient future in healthcare.
