The team at Prevention and Early Intervention for Psychosis

Mission

The MUHC Mental Health Mission is currently involved in conducting research aimed at improving services and outcomes for patients. Some studies are being conducted to further understand the genetic, biological and psychological factors that contribute to the development of mental illness.

Engagement

Patients may be asked to participate in one of several ongoing studies, for example, a study to test the effectiveness of a new medication or a brain imaging study. It is important to note that anyone invited to participate in a study will be given extensive information on the objectives of the research as well as the risks and benefits of participating, and they will be asked to sign an informed consent form. Patients are free to refuse partification, and refusal will not affect treatment in any way.

How to help a loved one suffering from psychosis?

One way to offer support is through scheduling activities that they enjoy with people they are familiar with. It is important is to provide them with the option to discuss how they are feeling and acknowledge that their experiences are real to them. Be mindful of being patronizing or humorous when talking about their idea of reality.
