Thirty years after a multiple sclerosis diagnosis that took him completely by surprise, Montrealer Pierre Bérubé speaks with gratitude about his journey. Thanks to dramatic advances in treatment and the dedicated, ongoing multidisciplinary care provided by the team at the Neuro, he leads an active life despite the challenges posed by the disease. Last fall, Dr. Laura Horowitz, a nephrologist at the MUHC, saw her life change dramatically in less than 48 hours. The diagnosis? Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), a rare and unpredictable autoimmune disease. For the first time, Dr. Horowitz experienced illness not from the perspective of a specialist physician, but from that of a patient. “I gained an even greater appreciation for the importance of every member of the healthcare team, starting with Dr. Rami Massie, neurologist at the Neuro, the orderlies and nurses, who were an incredible source of support throughout my recovery.” Read the full story in La Presse.  (1) (2)
