What is telehealth?

Telehealth is a way to have an appointment with your doctor, nurse or other healthcare professional from home or work. When it is done by video meeting, it can be called a “virtual consultation” or a “virtual appointment”.

Not all appointments can be done this way. Your doctor or another healthcare professional might choose to call you instead. At your next in-person appointment, you can ask if telehealth is possible for you.

The benefits of telehealth at the MUHC

You can save time and don’t have to travel far for appointments.

Microsoft Teams lets you connect with your healthcare provider at the click of a button.

Depending on their health conditions, people living far from the city, with limited mobility, or without reliable transportation, can get specialized healthcare without making the trip to downtown Montreal.

Sometimes health issues can be diagnosed and treatment started sooner than is an in-person appointment is needed.

In a 2022 survey of patients who used the virtual care platform:

  • 73% said they were completely satisfied with the virtual platform.
  • 81% said they felt comfortable using it.
  • 86% said it saved time.
  • 59% said it saved money.

Cutting out travel expenses and not having to take time off work saves patients money (no parking or transportation fees, etc.).

Microsoft Teams is a secure platform guaranteed by the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS).
