At a time of year when injuries linked to outdoor activities and accidents are more common, healthcare professionals in the A&E department and at the Trauma Centre of the Montreal General Hospital (HGM) wanted to raise public awareness of the importance of caution and injury prevention in order to avoid accidents that can sometimes have serious consequences. Accompanied by Vanessa Turgeon De Bonis, Nurse Manager, and Dr. Kosar Khwaja, Medical Director of the Trauma Centre, a CTV News reporter toured the Emergency Department, ambulance bay, resuscitation rooms and intensive care unit. The visit provided a behind-the-scenes look at the journey of critically injured patients and the day-to-day realities faced by the multidisciplinary teams who care for them. CTV News
Cyclospora Outbreak in the United States: Iceberg Lettuce Identified as the Likely Source
U.S. health authorities have identified iceberg lettuce imported from Mexico and served at certain Taco Bell restaurants in five states as the source of a cyclospora outbreak, an intestinal infection caused by the parasite Cyclospora. The illness can cause watery, sometimes severe diarrhea that may last from several days to several weeks. Dr. Don Vinh, microbiologist and infectious diseases specialist at the MUHC, is quoted in the Radio-Canada web article.
