“‘If you don’t want my kidney, I’ll give it to someone else.’”
That’s what Christine, Serge Pisapia’s sister, told him in 2014 after years of her brother refusing to accept her offer to donate a kidney. At first, their brother Jean-Marc had begun the process to become a donor, before being disqualified at the very last stage. In the end, it was Christine who donated her kidney.Today, Serge and Christine are turning this deeply human experience into a source of hope for others through the MUHC Kidney Transplant Ambassador Program, launched last March to better support and inform donors and recipients. Listen to the three members of the Pisapia family share their story on Pénélope’s radio show at Radio-Canada.
