The overall number of active tuberculosis cases in Montreal sharply increased in 2024
Although the incidence remains low, there are approximately 200 cases in Montreal in 2024, whereas the average number of cases per year between 2010 and 2023 was 121. Tuberculosis (TB) is relatively rare, said Dr. Richard Menzies, a respirologist, TB specialist, and TB researcher at the Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. “The biggest issue is that people present with a cough, and it is often misdiagnosed until, eventually, someone thinks of TB and the diagnosis is made.” The Gazette
Saving lives through teaching
