Dr. Vinh named co-chair of the Table nationale d’orientation stratégique en maladies rares

Dr. Donald Vinh was recently appointed co-chair of the new Table nationale d’orientation stratégique en maladies rares for the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS), alongside Jade Falardeau (MSSS).

What are rare diseases ?

Rare diseases include conditions that affect a small number of people — generally fewer than one in 2,000 people. With diverse origins — notably genetic, infectious, autoimmune, or linked to rare cancers — they are often associated with significant diagnostic delays and limited access to therapeutic options. In this context, implementing national action plans aimed at strengthening research, diagnosis, and access to care is essential.

The Role of the Table nationale d’orientation stratégique en maladies rares

The Table nationale d’orientation stratégique en maladies rares is mandated to support the Ministry in analyzing targeted issues, delving into complex challenges, and formulating strategic recommendations. Its work builds on the Politique québécoise pour les maladies rares and the Plan d’action québécois sur les maladies rares 2023–2027.

This appointment recognizes Dr. Vinh’s expertise as well as his significant contribution to the Ministry’s work and to the development of rare disease research in Québec, notably through the founding of RARE.Qc.

Congratulations Dr. Vinh!
