Part of the solution to overcrowded emergency rooms at the MGH

The Montreal General Hospital believes it has found part of the solution to overcrowded emergency rooms by opening a day centre for non-urgent care, which has allowed it to see more than 2,000 patients and free up beds. “It's really to shorten patients' hospital stays and provide an alternative to the emergency room,” explains Radia Boukheroufa, nurse manager at the Montreal General Hospital. Associate Director of Nursing Gino Curadeau estimates that the new unit has freed up the equivalent of 10 hospital beds. It also reduces the amount of time patients spend on stretchers in the emergency room. Journal de Montréal
