Prevention and Health Promotion

The Prevention and Health Promotion Department supports the health and safety of MUHC employees by providing practical resources, guidance and services related to workplace prevention. Below are some of the services and resources we offer.

N-95 Fit Test

N-95 fit testing is part of the MUHC respiratory protection program and is intended for salaried MUHC employees, including physicians and residents, whose work may require the use of a fitted respirator.

Students must not attend these sessions. Students who may need N-95 fit testing before starting an internship at the MUHC should contact their educational institution, as schools are responsible for providing the appropriate fit testing and related control measures.

N-95 fit test sessions are offered without appointment. Employees may simply present themselves on the date and at the location indicated in the current monthly calendar.

Ergonomics at the MUHC

  • The word ergonomics —“the science of work” — is derived from the Greek ergon (work) and nomos (laws).
  • Ergonomics (or human factors) is defined as the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data, and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance.
  • Ergonomists contribute to the design and evaluation of systems to make them compatible with people's needs, abilities, and limitations.

Definition of the International Ergonomics Association (IEA).

Our internal ergonomics program consists of awareness training, task and workstation evaluations, audio-visual resources, technical support on installation specifications as well as operational processes.

Our ergonomists work in collaboration with various departments to ensure a systems approach is used when applying ergonomics.
