Clinics
BPD Psychotherapy Clinic
This clinic provides a 12-week program designed for individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD).
Participants attend weekly individual therapy and group therapy sessions.
Participants must be:
- able to attend group therapy in English
- available to attend therapy twice a week
- connected to a community healthcare facility where a physician will continue to oversee their medications
- The goal is for patients to learn ways to regulate intense emotions and impulsive behaviours, so they no longer need hospital-based care.
Specialized Personality Disorder Clinic
This clinic treats patients with severe and chronic personality disorders (mostly BPD) whose every day activities and quality of life are seriously affected. Treatment is in blocks of three to six months.
Participants attend weekly individual therapy and two group therapy sessions. Psychiatric management is provided as needed while patients are in the program.
This clinic has a waiting list. Patients join the program when there are openings.
NOTE: Patients cannot take part in other psychiatric or psychological treatment while in the program.
- improve quality of life
- better regulate emotions
- address issues around identity
- foster adaptive interpersonal relationships
- promote personal accountability
Complex Care Clinic
This clinic offers follow-up for patients with severe personality disorders (PD), alone or in combination with other psychiatric disorders.
These patients are suited for an individually-tailored treatment program that sometimes can take a harm reduction approach. Patients either have a primary diagnosis of BPD, are unable to follow the structure of the Specialized Personality Disorder Clinic, or need psychiatric follow-up in second-line or third-line services.
Treatment is bio-psycho-social.
- reduce the use of other mental health resources (particularly psychiatric emergency)
- avoid the unwarranted use of psychotropics
- develop better insight into such matters as relationship problems and diagnosis
- improve psycho-social functioning, along with developing a sense of responsibility for one’s own life
