Neuromodulation

Neuromodulation at the MUHC

Neuromodulation Unit

The MUHC offers Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) – a safe, non-invasive treatment for depression and other brain-related conditions.

rTMS uses gentle magnetic pulses to help the brain work better. It does not need surgery, needles, or sleep medicine (anesthesia).

We offer rTMS to:

  • People with depression or other conditions when other treatments haven't worked.
  • People who qualify for one of our research studies.
    • These studies help us learn more about rTMS. If you join, treatment is free.
  • Each session lasts 30 to 60 minutes.
  • You will need about 20 to 30 sessions over 4 to 6 weeks.
  • You are awake the whole time and can go home after.

rTMS is covered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).

If you're in a research study, it's also free.
