We are the MUHC – Shining a spotlight on pediatric nurses

Pediatric Nurse Lyne Mainville

From October 6 to 10, we celebrate Pediatric Nurses Week. With nearly 1,000 nurses across a wide range of specialized roles at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and Women’s Health Mission of the MUHC, this incredible team truly makes a difference every day.

Spotlight on Lyne Mainville

Lyne Mainville is a senior nurse at the MCH, with almost 28 years at the MUHC, always at the Children’s.

“It is a privilege every day to serve our patient population,” says Lyne. “That feeling of being part of a greater good is what I love the most about working at the MUHC, and more specifically the Children’s!”

In keeping with this year’s Professional Days campaign theme, we asked Lyne what the MUHC means to her:

“For me, the MCH and MUHC have always put the patient at the centre of their decisions. The teamwork and devotion we feel from everyone to accomplish the best care for our most vulnerable patients and families is what it means to be part of the MUHC. It is why I wake up every morning ready to come to work.”

A distinguishing service

The MCH-MUHC has a dedicated pediatric team to do internal and intra-hospital transport for non-acute children.

“We have our own transport nurses, vehicle, and driver. We provide safe, timely care for patients wherever they need to go, inside or outside the hospital,” says Lyne. “No other institution goes this far in providing expert care. Our transport vehicle also serves select adult patients at the MUHC.”

Lyne reflects on how much has changed since she became a pediatric transport nurse 21 years ago:

“We have been through a hospital move, a pandemic, and many changes in the health care system. What hasn’t changed is the top-level care offered. Our patients trust us to help them in their most vulnerable times. At the MUHC we deliver that and more.”

Cindy McCartney, Associate Director of Nursing at the MCH and Women’s Health Mission, adds:

“Lyne embodies the very spirit of pediatric nursing at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Always ready to step in with compassion, skill, and unwavering dedication, she consistently goes above and beyond to support the team and care for our pediatric patients.”
