Pediatric Nurses Week - October 2 to 6

Thank you Adriane, and all your colleagues, for all the great work you do.

Join us as we celebrate Pediatric Nurses Week from October 2 to 6.

Adriane Provost is a pediatric nurse at the Montreal Children's Hospital.

What led you to becoming a pediatric nurse?

There came a point in my life when I realized that I could never work in an office or have a routine job. I knew from my first pediatric internship, that I wanted to work with children. Their strength and innocence in the face of illness gives me enormous energy, and I'm passionate about what I do because the people I work with give me hope. For me, being a nurse means putting on my running shoes and giving all my energy to my patients as soon as I get to work. My days are always very different.

What is the best advice that someone at the MUHC ever gave you?

Teamwork. We have considerable autonomy in managing our day and organizing our tasks, all of which can seem like independent work. However, working as a team, not only with my nursing colleagues but with the whole care team, is essential. I think it's also one of our strongest points at B09, making our days so much more enjoyable!

Tell us about working with your fellow nurses?

I work in the Pediatric Medicine Unit and I feel like it's my second family. Our work isn't always easy, it's often like a rollercoaster, but the team I work with is a GOLDEN team. We always work together and we've succeeded in creating a very pleasant atmosphere. There's always a potluck organized, activities, teachings, etc.

How do you like to relax and unwind after a shift?

I always look forward to coming home to have dinner with my husband, to relax and unwind from my day!
