Turning trash into treasure: The C.R.I. Green Team’s success across the MUHC!

CRI Green Team

The Comité de la relève infirmière (C.R.I.), in collaboration with the MUHC Sustainable Development Committee, recently wrapped up a successful Green Team initiative that brought sustainability to every corner of our organization.

From the Glen to the MGH, and from Lachine to The Neuro, the team organized “pop-up days” that brought staff together to celebrate sustainability and community.

Thanks to the generosity of MUHC staff, who donated gently used scrubs throughout the summer, the Trash to Treasure campaign was a huge success. The team collected 302 gently used scrubs.

Here’s how they made an impact:

  • 81 per cent of the donated scrubs were returned directly to MUHC personnel during the pop-up events across all four sites.
  • The remaining sets will be offered to McGill nursing students or donated to local clothing centres.
  • Overall this initiative prevented textile waste equivalent to 1,687 kg of CO₂ emissions (driving over 6,900 km), conserved 173,515 litres of water (enough for 2,665 showers), and gave new life to hundreds of garments that might otherwise have ended up in landfills.

This project highlights how small, collective actions can have a big environmental impact.

The Green Team thanks everyone who donated, participated, and helped turn its vision of sustainability into reality.

Together, we’re creating a greener MUHC!
