New web section shares how Critical Illness Recovery Centre helps patients

The MUHC’s Critical Illness Recovery Centre (CIRC) helps patients and their families heal after experiencing an episode of critical illness that required admission to the Intensive Care Unit. The CIRC recently launched a new section on the MUHC website to raise awareness about the critical illness recovery program’s role at the hospital.

The patients and loved ones referred to CIRC have gone through what may have been the most frightening time of their lives and that takes a physical, psychological and emotional toll. Effects can be long lasting; they don’t just disappear when someone is ready to leave the ICU,” says Dr. David Hornstein, CIRC medical director.

Recovery often requires more care and support to help process the experience and manage the challenges that follow ICU discharge. A support group available at the MUHC to CIRC patients was featured last month on the Radio-Canada radio show Ça me regarde,  as well as on the Radio-Canada web platform. These interviews were part of the MUHC in the Media round ups for the weeks of September 15 and 22.
