Meet the MUHC’s first Sustainability Ambassadors!

Say hello to the MUHC’s first Sustainability Ambassadors!

Sustainable Development

Launched this past summer, the program gives employees the chance to become active leaders in promoting sustainable practices across the organization. Sustainability is at the heart of our values and is one of our strategic priorities.

As liaisons between their departments and the Performance and Sustainable Development team, our 17 ambassadors will take part in MUHC-wide initiatives like Earth Day and Biodiversity DayThey also help bring sustainable practices into their own departments and across the hospital.

What our ambassadors say about the program:

« Être ambassadeur, c’est être un relais d’information et un facteur de changement positif dans notre milieu de travail. » — Lyes Behnan

“I see my role as an opportunity to share and encourage a more sustainable culture within the workplace.” — Joshua Nordeman

“C’est de porter un regard neuf dans la gestion des matières résiduelles. Cela permet de rejoindre l’objectif du développement durable, répondre aux besoins des patients et travailleurs tout en assurant l’avenir de ceux qui viennent après nous.” — Camara Houssainatou

Do you know the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

At their first meeting, ambassadors were introduced to the 17 UN SDGs, a global call to action addressing urgent challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and protecting our oceans and forests. “Our ambassadors are already identifying areas where they can make a tangible impact within the organization,” says Marie-Christine Chartier, Assistant to the Director, Performance and Sustainable Development.

Below are some photos from the recent Bioblitz at the Montreal General Hospital. Our ambassadors, along with MUHC Parking and Grounds services and Les Amis de la Montagne, recorded animal and plant species on the hospital grounds.

Using the iNat Classic app (iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/inaturalist-classic/id421397028 and Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.inaturalist.android) , the 14 participants made 64 observations and identified 46 species, all of which will be added to a global database accessible to scientists and nature enthusiasts around the world.
