Career Destination 2026: Discovering the many careers within a hospital

From July 13 to 17, 2026, the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Directorate of Education and Simulation, welcomed 39 students to the Glen site for Career Destination 2026, a week dedicated to exploring healthcare careers and the complex environment of a university health centre.

Interest in this year’s program was remarkable. 156 applications were received from students representing 26 schools located both on and off the Island of Montreal.

Throughout the week, participants took part in a wide range of educational and experiential activities, including:

• clinical and non-clinical career-shadowing experiences
• hands-on healthcare simulation activities 
• tours of different hospital services and departments 
• professional encounters and networking opportunities 
• a “Gen Z panel” on education and healthcare career pathways

A diverse group of 101 professionals from clinical, administrative, technical, research, educational and support services represented the many roles that contribute to hospital operations, education and patient care. By sharing their expertise, career journeys and daily responsibilities, they helped students understand how different professions work together within a complex healthcare organization.

The success of the week would not have been possible without our eight dedicated volunteers and two MUHC student employees who served as program ambassadors. They welcomed and accompanied the students, guided them to their activities, and answered their questions throughout the week. Their presence helped create a supportive, organized, and welcoming experience for every participant.

We also extend our sincere thanks to all the professionals who generously shared their time, expertise, and personal career journeys. Their enthusiasm and openness made a meaningful difference in the lives of these students—helping them discover new possibilities, ask important questions, and envision a future withinin healthcare.
