New electric vehicle charging stations at the Montreal General Hospital
As part of an ongoing commitment to reducing our environmental footprint, the MUHC Parking and Grounds Department, in collaboration with the Projects Office, is proud to announce the installation of new Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the multi-level parking facility at the Montreal General Hospital (MGH). The stations will operational as of Wednesday, May 6.
This initiative supports the transition to cleaner energy while enhancing services for patients, visitors, staff, and physicians who drive electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles.
According to Jacques Avital from the MUHC Project Office, “In 2024, 30% of newly registered vehicles were zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). It was only a matter of time before the Project Office partnered with the Parking and Grounds team to bring EV charging infrastructure to our parking facilities.”
Rafal Smigiel, Sector Manager, contributes: “Quebec has the largest EV charging network in Canada, accounting for 39% of all infrastructure nationwide. We are pleased to contribute to the transition to electric transportation by offering this service at the MGH.”
Department Head Caroline Nessim also highlights, “The MUHC is keeping up with a growing trend among Quebecers by expanding charging options across parking facilities. This initiative is set to grow as demand rises. The project fits our 2024–2026 tactical improvement goals, and supports the strategic direction of the Technical Services Department.”

Objectives for improvement
- Encourage MUHC users to transition to electric vehicles
- Promote the use of clean, renewable energy
- Transform our parking lots into spaces for sustainable ecological change
