Internship Supervision Excellence Week continues at the MGH and the Allan Memorial
Today, we celebrate the Montreal General Hospital and the Allan Memorial Institute, where internship supervision is deeply rooted in a tradition of excellence and history.
Did you know that in 1890, Nora Livingston founded the first on-site Nursing Training School at the MGH, setting pioneering professional standards within the hospital? In 1906, Flora Madeline Shaw, a graduate of that school, became the first nursing instructor in Canada and later served as director of McGill’s School for Graduate Nurses.
That legacy remains very much alive. Supervision at the MGH and the Allan Memorial Institute is no longer limited to nursing; now benefiting all professionals in training. Whether physicians, pharmacists, therapists, nurses, or other disciplines, all gain from guidance infused with expertise, rigour, and compassion. Staying true to this tradition, supervisors passionately pass on the values of excellence that continue to shape professional practice in all its diversity.
We invite you to watch the video and read the testimonies that showcase these unique experiences, and the importance of compassionate supervision.
Did you know? The MUHC brings together an impressive community of people who supervise internships (supervisors, preceptors, associate clinicians, etc.) and who play an essential role in training the next generation across many disciplines (nursing, multidisciplinary services, pharmacy, medical imaging, engineering, IT, administrative services, and more). |
