Roadwork around the Glen site: now that’s a construction site!
The intersection of Décarie and Saint-Jacques is breaking all records these days: never before has the area seen so many construction workers, cranes, trucks or backhoes. Not only is work being carried out on the Glen Campus site, but the City of Montreal is also making improvements to the surrounding infrastructures in preparation for the arrival of the MUHC.
Since last fall, a major project has been underway to widen Décarie Boulevard. The MUHC has given up 20 metres of the Glen Campus site along the length of Décarie (between Saint-Jacques and de Maisonneuve) to enable the City to transform this artery into a five-lane, two-way urban boulevard. Workers are currently installing a large collector sewer along the boulevard and restructuring the Décarie / Saint-Jacques intersection. The City is using this opportunity to fix flooding issues north of the site, which will result in a major benefit to local residents.
A variety of work will be done in the area between now and 2013 to ensure that everything is in place when we open.
