Neuromodulation Unit
The MUHC offers Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) – a safe, non-invasive treatment for depression and other brain-related conditions.
rTMS uses gentle magnetic pulses to help the brain work better. It does not need surgery, needles, or sleep medicine (anesthesia).
Who can get rTMS?
We offer rTMS to people:
- with depression, or other conditions, when other treatments haven't worked
- who qualify for one of our research studies
- with other disorders who qualify for rTMS
What can I expect with rTMS?
- Each session lasts 30 to 60 minutes.
- You will need about 20 to 30 sessions over 6 to 8 weeks.
- You are awake the whole time and can go home after.
How much does rTMS cost at the MUHC?
rTMS is covered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).
If you're in a research study, it's also free.
