The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Foundation celebrated the generosity of the Birks Family Foundation, which has donated $300,000 to support The Best Care for Life campaign and the new Research Institute at the Glen site. In recognition of the Birks Family Foundation’s generous contribution, the bronchoscopy and endoscopy suite at the Research Institute’s Centre for Innovative Medicine has been named in its honour.

The state-of-the-art bronchoscopy and endoscopy suite will be used to better understand the underlying biological mechanisms of respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder and cystic fibrosis.  Several clinical trials are already underway, and this suite is an important space that will provide researchers with critical data to help improve patient outcomes.

Founded in 1961, the Birks Family Foundation is a long-time supporter of not only the Montreal community, but also communities across Canada in the fields of: hospitals and healthcare, education, social services and the arts. The Foundation seeks to contribute to a higher standard of living and quality of life for all Canadians, and the construction of the MUHC’s hospital at the Glen was an ideal project to fulfill this important mission.
