Age Limit
Based on scientific and medical evidence, and on the fact that a woman’s age is an important variable affecting success of treatment, we have revised our age limit for treatment as follows:
- We provide IVF treatment with their own eggs to women who are under 43 years of age. Therefore, we no longer see new patients who are more than 42 years of age unless for treatment with donor eggs;
- We provide IVF treatment using donor eggs to women who are between 43 and 50 years of age. Therefore, we no longer see new patients who are more than 49 years of age.
Weight (BMI) Limit
As obesity has become a major public health issue, risks and success rates of infertility treatments in obese women have been investigated extensively. There seems to be a strong association between a high BMI and lower pregnancy/live-birth rates and increased miscarriage rate. Furthermore, pregnancy in patients with a high BMI can have a major impact on maternal and baby’s health.
Weight reduction is generally encouraged and patients in our clinic are counselled accordingly; however, we do not limit eligibility based on high BMI only.
An overall metabolic assessment combined with weight reduction programs when needed has become our first line treatment for patients with a higher BMI.
