What will happen to the old MUHC buildings once the hospitals move?
With our move to the Glen site, the MUHC Board of Directors has indicated that buildings at the Montreal Children's Hospital, Royal Victoria Hospital and the Montreal Chest Institute will be “surplus immovable property”.
In 2013, in an effort to recognize the value of the MUHC and CHUM buildings, the Quebec government announced the creation of an interdepartmental committee whose mandate is to provide a plan detailing how the buildings will be reused or sold. The government has authorized the MUHC and Health Ministry to proceed with the sale of the Montreal Chest Institute and Montreal Children’s Hospital. The sale process will be open and transparent and overseen by the Société québécoise des infrastructures (SQI), as mandated by the government. The future of the Royal Victoria Hospital building is still being assessed.
