About the Program

The Exercise Prescription Program (EPP) is a free, personalized, six-month program that:

  • Helps you get physically active at home.
  • Consists of aerobic activity, resistance training and stretching exercises to be done two or three times per week.
  • Includes regular meetings with your trainer to update your program.
  • Provides assessment to evaluate your physical fitness level at baseline, and again three months and six months into the program.

This program will help you incorporate regular physical activity into your weekly routine. Your plan will include aerobic, resistance and flexibility exercises.

If you have recently experienced a cardiac event and are interested in our program, you can contact us and become one of our many participants.

The Exercise Prescription Program is open to people of all fitness levels and anyone wanting to make preventative cardiovascular lifestyle changes or who would like to start exercising after cardiac events.

Please download and complete the Participant Agreement Form to sign up for the program.

How to book an appointment

You need to be referred to the Family Heart Centre by your treating physician, or to be seen at the Women’s Healthy Heart Initiative in order to be eligible to participate to this program. Appointments will be given once you have been seen by the medical team.

We are located at the Glen site of the McGill University Health Centre. However, most of our sessions are conducted virtually.

Exercise Information Session

The exercise information session provides detailed information about your program. During this virtual session, you will be given instructions on exercising in the comfort of your home with minimal equipment and how to improve your cardiovascular health and overall health. 
The virtual tutorial is available two ways:

  • A PowerPoint with detailed information and graphics in each slide.
  • A video that walks you through each step.
