Hundreds celebrate MUHC’s inauguration

As the Montreal Gazette and Global recalls, between 5,000 and 10,000 people participated in the MUHC’s Walk for Montreal! led by Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre on June 20th., which kicked off a weekend of celebrations for the opening of the new MUHC at the Glen site. Later during the day, local residents, employees and volunteers attended the ribbon cutting ceremony and concerts by Stéphanie Lapointe and Sam Roberts Band. MUHC dignitaries and speakers included His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada; Quebec Minister of Health and Social Services, Gaétan Barrette; Denis Coderre; and McGill Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Suzanne Fortier.

Timely treatment vastly improves outcomes for stroke patients

The MUHC’s stroke program is a pioneer in Quebec for speed and quality of care. Both the Montreal General Hospital and The Neuro earned a new accreditation as a secondary and a tertiary stroke centre, in which early treatments are put forward to increase the chances of survival and diminish disabilities for patients. For Stroke Month, McGill Reporter interviewed neurologist Dr. Robert Côté, Medical Director of the MUHC Stroke Program and Siva Moonsamy, Managing Nurse at The Neuro’s ICU.
