This week, Infopresse praised the originality of the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation’s ad campaign featuring Children’s patients. Zoe the pirate, David the astronaut, Lina the princess, and Hubert the knight remind us that kids remain kids at the Children’s and that even though it can be hard at times, some positive moments can also be lived there. Once upon a Twilight stands as an example. This memorable concert, with Maestro Kent Nagano and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, helped children and their families settle in at the Glen.

Tetanus: the importance of vaccination

On Radio-Canada radio, Dr. Caroline Quach, medical microbiologist and pediatric infectious diseases consultant at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, described the symptoms of Tetanus and how you can avoid contracting the disease, after a six year old Ontarian boy was infected earlier this week. Dr. Quach highlights the importance of vaccination for children, and even adults, and first aid in case of an injury.

Tips and tricks for having fun in the sun

This week is National Sun Awareness Week. For the occasion, Dr. Beatrice Wang, Director of the Melanoma clinic at the Royal Victoria Hospital, explained to CTV and to Montreal Gazette how simple changes in behavior could help prevent skin cancer. She recommends applying sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and seeking shade whenever possible, especially in the middle of the day when the sun’s rays are strongest. MUHC patient Dan O’Neil, who has suffered of three bouts of melanoma, also shared his experience to increase awareness of the consequences of sun exposure.
