Voices of Consensus and the Road Ahead
Last May, the MUHC Board of Directors Strategic Initiatives Committee was mandated to define the contribution of our Academic Health Centre (AHC) to the Quebec health network, taking into account the reforms brought by Bill 10, and the prospect of exploring new forms of collaboration with the healthcare network.
Last night the Board of Directors unanimously adopted Melissa Sonberg’s report, “Voices of Consensus and the Road Ahead”, fully endorsing its strong consensus, recommendations and strategic orientations.
Please find below the letter from Mr. Claudio Bussandri, Chairman of the MUHC Board of Directors. It includes links to Ms. Solberg’s letter and the report.

Dear colleagues,
Last May, the Board of Directors of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) mandated Melissa Sonberg to lead strategic consultations to define the contribution of the MUHC as an academic health centre within the Quebec health network and explore new forms of collaboration with partners while taking into account the reforms brought about by Bill 10.
I am pleased to inform you that last night the Board of Directors unanimously adopted this pivotal report, “Voices of Consensus and the Road Ahead”, fully endorsing its strong consensus, recommendations and strategic orientations. I wish to thank all of you who participated in this broad consultation, including senior managers, clinical and non-clinical personnel, physicians, patients, as well as representatives of our foundations, corporations, unions and Friends of the MUHC.
The Report reinforces our values as a leading academic health centre and our pride in our partnership with the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University, while establishing our path forward. It confirms our commitment to putting the patient first, which will continue to serve as the guiding principle governing all of our activities and our decisions.
To meet this objective we are supporting the continuation of the current governance of the institutions of the west-end of Montreal, as well as their close and respective ties to their community and foundations.
I wish to be clear, however, that we are also not opting for the status quo.
Our focus will be on the development of an integrated clinical governance model under the umbrella of a revitalized RUIS. This will be achieved through a process driven by our healthcare professionals and our patients and implemented in collaboration with our partners.
I encourage you to read Melissa Sonberg’s letter of transmittal to the Board, which acts as an executive summary, and the full report.
All of us on the Board of Directors are encouraged that a consensus on our future direction has emerged, and please join me in thanking Melissa Sonberg for her hard work and professionalism. At the same time I wish to thank each of you for your support and dedication to the MUHC.
Claudio Bussandri
Chairman, Board of Directors
