MUHC responds to emergency situation
Montreal, 6 p.m - An emergency event occurred at des Découvreurs school in the Montreal borough of LaSalle leading the McGill University Health Centre to declare a Code Orange for multiple patients shortly before 12 noon at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Sixteen patients were brought to the Montreal Children’s Hospital either by Urgences-santé or by their parents for evaluation, plus one adult was put under observation at the Royal Victoria Hospital.
All 17 patients are in stable condition. One child was admitted for observation and was undergoing oxygen therapy. Two children were discharged while three remained under observation in the Emergency Room with the hope of being released later this evening. Ten more children were transferred to Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur-de-Montréal as a precaution, where they will undergo brief hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
The Code Orange was lifted at 4 p.m. once the MUHC was re-assured no more patients would be brought in by ambulance. Our thoughts are with those affected by today’s incident. We thank all our patients, personnel, and healthcare partners for their collaboration and tremendous work today.
