And the winner of The Vic’s Got Talent! is...

After months of anticipation, the winner of The Vic’s Got Talent! art contest was revealed on October 8 in the hospital’s H4 lounge.

The piece by Juliet Rogers took top nods, earning praise from a panel of expert judges consisting of: Lorrie Blair, professor and acting chair of Art Education in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Concordia University; Marilyn Lajeunesse, educational programmes officer for Adult Programmes at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; and Dr. Jonathan Meakins, director of the MUHC Art and Heritage Centre.

“In essence the process was very collaborative,” admitted Meakins. “We looked for the artwork that reflected the hospital and its heritage. Juliet's had a nice balanced composition of objects and colour and it reflects the origin and history of the institution.”

The artwork will be put on display at the Glen site and serve as a permanent tribute to the legacy of the Royal Vic. Rogers is a 29-year veteran of the MUHC’s Human Resources Department.

Visitors also had a chance to vote on their favourite of the 39 art pieces that were on display. The People’s Choice Award went to Tex Dawson, a former RVH patient. His “A Vic Sunny Day” sold for more than $500 in the auction.

The MUHC’s Legacy Year will culminate on June 20, 2015 with the Walk for Montreal! that will be led by Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre and followed by the official inauguration events at the Glen site. For more information please visit muhclovesmtl.ca.
