Pharmacy Technical Assistants Day

The role of a pharmacy technical assistant (PTA) is to support the pharmacist in daily operations, without performing any professional acts that are reserved for pharmacists. It is an essential role that contributes to the efficiency and safety of the medication process.

March 25 is a day dedicated to recognizing the vital contribution of these professionals to the healthcare chain, both in community and hospital settings. Through their rigorous work in the preparation and safe management of medications, as well as their constant support of pharmacists, PTAs play a key role for patients.

For this occasion, we’d like to highlight Lisa-Marie Wattier, team leader at the Montreal General Hospital, where she has been working since 2008.

“I love working at the MGH. As a trauma hub within a university centre, there’s a lot of action. We handle complex cases, which keeps the work fast-paced and daily life far from monotonous.”

“I am proud to be part of the MUHC. As a research centre, we have access to many training opportunities that keep us at the forefront of pharmacy practice. I also get to teach new PTAs, which makes my role very diverse. I’m also attached to the MUHC and MGH because of the stable pharmacy team and excellent work environment. Over time, we have become a real little family. We regularly organize potlucks, which give us a chance to connect both professionally and personally.”

On this Pharmacy Technical Assistants Day, let’s recognize the outstanding work of all pharmacy technical assistants at the MUHC. Your contribution is essential, and it is thanks to your dedication that we can provide high-quality care.
