Nurse practitioners: Innovating care with outside the box thinking!

From November 10 to 16, we proudly celebrate the exceptional contributions of our 63 nurse practitioners (NPs) at the MUHC! This team includes 28 NPs in adult care, 18 in pediatrics, 3 in mental health, 1 in primary care, and 13 in neonatal care.

Nurse practitioners (NPs) provide advanced, patient-centered care that goes beyond traditional boundaries. Their diverse practice stands out through both their clinical responsibilities—such as diagnoses, prescribing, and patient management—and their non-clinical roles in research, documentation, and education. Through their leadership and expertise, NPs drive initiatives to improve care, play a vital role in training the next generation of clinicians, and contribute to the evolution of healthcare by presenting at conferences. With a high level of autonomy and roles once reserved for physicians, these professionals leverage their expertise to make a meaningful difference every day—whether directly with patients in clinical settings or through research and educational initiatives that shape the future of healthcare. At the MUHC, NPs extend their expertise into specialties such as neonatology, palliative care, adolescent medicine, psychiatry, heart failure, cardiac surgery, outreach work in northern Quebec, and several others. Their work is crucial in enhancing our healthcare model while ensuring patients receive the best care possible.

“We are so grateful for the vital roles our NPs play in our healthcare system and their unwavering dedication to our community’s health and well-being,” says Margarida Ribeiro da Silva, head of nurse practitioner services. “Nurse practitioners at the MUHC are trailblazers. NPs help innovate patient care models, improving patient experiences and outcomes.”

Thank you to all our NPs for your hard work, commitment, and leadership.

Happy Nurse Practitioner Week!
