MUHC’s first blood drive draws overwhelming support!
The McGill University Health Centre’s first-ever blood drive on April 2 was a resounding success. Every space was filled and donors showed up in full force, eager to make a life-saving contribution.

“In life-threatening situations, there is no substitute for blood – whether for a post-partum hemorrhage, a complex surgery, or any number of difficult cases,” says Dr. Andrew Zakhari who helped organize the event. “As a physician and user of our provincial blood bank, it feels like both a privilege and a duty to give back to this resource we rely on day-in and day-out."
Every 80 seconds, someone in Quebec needs blood. Thanks to the collaboration with Héma-Québec and the leadership of MUHC-i-SIM’s Education and Simulation Directorate, and the teamwork of ProACT OBGYN, WHAM medical student volunteers, and others, this milestone event at the Glen site was able to meet that critical need.

"Giving blood is a simple act that has a profound impact,” says Geneviéve Rhéaume, Manager, MUHC Interprofessional Simulation Centre. “It was a privilege to collaborate with Dr. Zakhari, ProAct, and WHAM in organizing this blood drive knowing that every contribution can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life."
The event secured 79 blood donations, and Dr. Zakhari hopes the MUHC can continue to support Héma-Québec and its patients through future events like this.

Thank you to everyone who signed up, donated, or helped spread the word. Your generosity helps ensure that patients in need receive the care they deserve.
