Micro d’or 2025

Each year, the MUHC Communications team is delighted to present the Micro d'or award to two members of the MUHC and Montreal Children's Hospital community, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to promoting the expertise of the MUHC, the MCH and The Institute in the media. We present this year's recipients:

Pediatric Nephrology Division - Micro d'or 2025 - MCH

The team at the Pediatric Nephrology Division of the Montreal Children's Hospital (MCH) made its mark in various Quebec media outlets in 2025. Leina Kingdom, a medical student, Catherine Giroux, Nurse Manager at the Dialysis Centre, and Dr. Marie-Michèle Gaudreault-Tremblay, Director of the Kidney Transplant Program, were interviewed about the Green Nephrology Project, which includes numerous measures aimed at reducing the division's environmental impact.

Dr. Gaudreault-Tremblay, along with pediatric nephrologists Dr. Mallory Downie and Dr. Indra Gupta, also made headlines in the media about a unique kidney transplant that took place at the MCH. The patient Mario Futia waited 12 years for a new kidney. He had antibodies against all donors. He was the first child in Canada to receive a kidney from a donor against whom he had antibodies.

Dr. Gupta and Marta Rodrigues, a nephrology nurse, also spoke to reporters about the case of patient Carmella, who is waiting for a new kidney.

Neuro Teams Win the 2025 Micro d’Or

As part of the major awareness campaign rolled out during the summer and fall of 2025, the Neuro’s expertise was prominently showcased through a series of media articles and reports. Neurosurgeon Marie-Christine Brunet, neurologist Catherine Legault, neurosurgeons Dr. Charles Couturier and Dr. Carlo Santaguida, as well as the epilepsy monitoring unit team — Dr. Raluca Pana, nurses Annik Plamondon and Chun Ip Koo — all contributed to highlighting the versatility, dedication, and commitment of the Neuro to its patients.

The Neuro’s director, Dr. Guy Rouleau, for his part, signed an open letter about the institution’s future, supporting a La Presse report that underscored the outdated condition of the facilities at this neurological hospital. Despite these challenges, the Neuro continues to deliver cutting-edge, high-quality care. Maxime Boutin-Caron, Dr. Justin Létourneau, head nurse Siva Moonsamy, Dr. Lucie Poitras, pharmacist Anne-Marie Charbonneau, and researcher Gabriele Riva also generously agreed to share their experiences within the institution.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all these healthcare professionals for their availability and dedication, and congratulate them on receiving the 2025 Micro d’Or — a truly well-deserved honour!

Thank you to everyone who helped showcase the expertise of the MUHC, MCH, and The Institute in the media throughout 2025!
