Inspection of the Montreal General Hospital facades using infographics and drones
As part of the project to inspect the facades of the Montreal General Hospital (MGH), and in order to comply with Law 122 of the Régie du bâtiment du Québec, infographics and drone surveys will be carried out by the firm COEX, hired by the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).
Permission to use a drone over the grounds of the MGH has been granted by the head of Emergency Measures and Security, ensuring compliance with current regulations and codes.
All the activities related to the inspection and analysis of the facades will occur outside the hospital, including scanning and drone flights. COEX professionals will wear reflective vests so that they are easily identifiable.
Inspection activities
- A deformation analysis of all the hospital's facades will be conducted using scanners. The surveys will be carried out both from ground level around the building and from certain rooftops of the MGH.
- Multiple drone flights will take place around the building to document the condition of the facades using images. The drone used is small, and while it may generate some noise between ground level and the fourth or fifth floors, the noise generally becomes imperceptible at higher altitudes. Due to distance and the reflectivity of the windows, there will be no visibility into hospital rooms, ensuring the privacy of patients and staff.
- Control points in the form of removable stickers will be placed on flat exterior surfaces, such as windows, metal doors and parapets.
Work is scheduled to begin April 2, 2025. The duration of the scanning activities will depend on weather conditions.
No significant disruption to the hospital's regular activities is expected.
We thank you for your cooperation.
