Dr. Tarek Hijal appointed Chair of the National Radiation Oncology Committee
The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is proud and pleased to announce that the Programme québécois de cancérologie (PQC) of the Health and Social Services Ministry has unanimously selected Dr. Tarek Hijal as Chair of the Comité national de radio-oncologie (CNRO).
Dr. Hijal is a radiation oncologist and Director of the MUHC Department of Radiation Oncology. He is also an assistant professor in the Department of Oncology at McGill University, as well as a researcher at the Research Institute of the MUHC (RI-MUHC). In addition, Dr. Hijal is co-developer of the award-winning Opal patient portal.
This smartphone application, currently in operation at the Cedars Cancer Centre of the MUHC, allows patients to access personalized and relevant medical information and educational material, including appointments, lab results and medical records.
The mission of the Programme québécois de cancérologie is to guide, coordinate and evaluate government action to reduce the overall impact of cancer in Quebec. As the new chair of the CNRO, Dr. Hijal's priority will be to review the organization's action plan and have it approved.
