Dr. Michael Dahan honoured with King Charles III Coronation Medal
MUHC obstetrician, gynecologist, and specialist in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, Dr. Michael Dahan, was recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal. The medal, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the country or outstanding achievements abroad that bring credit to Canada.
At a special ceremony, Anju Dhillon, Member of Parliament for Dorval, Lachine, LaSalle, presented the medal to Dr. Dahan, commending his work. “In presenting me the award, she highlighted that I had expanded Canada’s reputation internationally,” he says. Clearly touched by the recognition, he added, “It is quite an honour.”

A legacy of research and advocacy
Recipients of this prestigious medal are nominated anonymously, but Dr. Dahan has a good idea of who put his name forward - and why. “I am an avid researcher and have published more than 280 peer-reviewed articles,” he says. “I’m finishing up my fourth textbook on reproductive health for women, and I’ve been invited to speak internationally over 180 times.”
Dr. Dahan’s research focuses on the impact of endocrine disorders on pregnancy complications, the risks they pose to conception and pregnancy, and how fertility treatments affect the human placenta. “I think these are the areas I’m most known for, being a leader internationally,” he explains. He has also developed treatments that are now widely used in fertility medicine.
A family moment to remember
Among his many accomplishments, one humorous moment stands out. “When I was writing an article about a newly discovered syndrome, my nine-year-old son came to see me,” he recalls. “I explained that, since it was new, I got to name it. When I told him I was naming it after us, he was horrified and said, ‘You’re naming a disease after us?! Can’t you name it after someone else?’” Dahan’s syndrome happens when the pituitary gland is damaged due to extreme narrowing of blood vessels, even without major bleeding.
Commitment to women’s health
Dr. Dahan also received a certificate of congratulations for his contributions to women’s reproductive rights and his dedication to advancing healthcare and advocacy in the field.

Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
