Cindy McCartney appointed Director of The Montreal Children’s Hospital

I am pleased to announce that Ms. Cindy McCartney has been appointed to the newly created position of Director, The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), effective May 31, 2026.

Cindy McCartney With a strong academic background, over two decades of enthusiastic dedication to pediatrics and women’s health, as well as a self-described leadership style focused on team mobilization, Ms. McCartney — currently associate director — is a perfect fit for this leadership role. Not only does she possess the strategic mindset, expertise and knowledge of our institution and the health and social services network to support continuous improvements in performance and policy, but she also has a deep sense of loyalty to our people and our mission as an academic health centre.

In her new functions, Ms. McCartney will report to the associate president and executive director of the MUHC and work closely with the associate medical and professional services director, as well as other key leaders such as the pediatrician-in-chief, director of nursing and director of multidisciplinary services. Among her responsibilities, she will ensure the planning, coordination and management of activities related to pediatrics, fertility and obstetrics. She will help define the mission, orientations, objectives and development strategies for the MCH, as well as support operations and the implementation of an innovative organizational model for the co-management of pediatrics and obstetrics. A member of the senior management team (CODIR), Ms. McCartney will also serve as representative of the MUHC with Santé Québec and on regional/provincial tables for such matters.

Ms. McCartney started her career at the MCH in 2004 as a registered nurse after earning her diploma in Nursing from John Abbott College (2003). She then pursued a Bachelor’s of Nursing degree at the University of British Columbia (2007) and subsequently added a Master’s degree in Quality Care from Queen’s University (2021), completion of the Ministry of Health and Social Services’ Programme national de développement des leaders (2024) and a management certificate from McGill University (2016), as she assumed progressive roles of responsibility at the MUHC.
