Celebrating World Plumbing Day

March 11 is World Plumbing Day, an opportunity to highlight the important role plumbing plays in our health and safety.

The MUHC is proud to rely on dedicated plumbers at both the Lachine Hospital and the Montreal General Hospital. “Every day, they work diligently to ensure the safety and reliability of our facilities for our patients and staff,” says MGH Facilities Management Manager Francis Gilbert. “Plumbers play a vital role by ensuring access to clean drinking water, sanitary safety, and wastewater management.”

At the MGH, the plumbing team plays a key role in maintaining operations. “It is with a small team of just four plumbers that we ensure everything runs smoothly,” says Claude Bérubé, Facilities Management Manager. “In the background, the daily maintenance often goes unnoticed but contributes to the comfort of our patients and staff. Whether it is dealing with a major water leak or replacing essential components, our team is always ready, guided by deeply ingrained values to provide the best customer service possible. Thank you Loubani, Elias, Martin and Hugo for your dedication. You are the MUHC.”

Philippe-Alexandre Coté is Manager of Facilities Management at Lachine Hospital. He shared his heartfelt praise for the team at Lachine. “In the heart of Lachine Hospital, where water flows and pipes cross paths, there are two quiet but essential craftsmen: Francis and Patrick, our dedicated plumbers,” says Philippe-Alexandre. “Whether it's an urgent leak, a clogged pipe, or a complex installation, Francis and Patrick are always there, with professionalism and efficiency. Their expertise and responsiveness are invaluable assets to the smooth operation of our facility.”

The work of plumbers goes beyond just solving problems. They are proactive, always looking for innovative solutions to improve the work environment.  Recent projects at Lachine include replacement of the drinking fountains, installing touchless models to enhance hygiene and safety measures within the hospital.

“Our teams work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to ensure the comfort and safety of all: patients, visitors, and staff,” says Philippe-Alexandre. “We are proud to have you at the MUHC.”
