MUHC Perfusionists awarded the 2025 CSCP Team Award
The 2025 The Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion (CSCP) Team Award has been awarded to the perfusionists at the McGill University Health Center (MUHC). This prestigious recognition honors their commitment to patient care, education and innovation in the field of perfusion.
Under the leadership of Chief Perfusionist May Tam, the MUHC perfusionist team is involved in complex cardiac surgeries, neonatal and pediatric treatments for congenital heart disease, and complex procedures such as Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy and mechanical heart support for patients awaiting heart transplant. Their work spans multiple sites, including the Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Montreal General Hospital for trauma and thoracic surgeries, and the Royal Victoria Hospital for adult cardiac care. The team's unwavering commitment often means long hours to ensure surgeries and treatments proceed without delay, delivering the highest standard of care to every patient.

The team is also deeply committed to education, collaborating with the Michener Institute and Université de Montréal to train the next generation of perfusion professionals. They pioneered Quebec's first ECMO nurse provider program and are the only 24/7 ECMO program in the province, providing ECMO insertions both in and out of the hospital patients.
“What stands out most is that this team is very close. We have each other’s back and all think alike,” says May Tam. This camaraderie and collaboration are at the heart of the team’s success, and it is what drives their relentless pursuit of excellence.
Congratulations to May Tam and her team for their outstanding contributions to healthcare and the field of perfusion.
