International Accounting Day

Thank you Maria Bermillo, and all your colleagues, for the excellent work you do. Join us as we celebrate  International Accounting Day on November 10!

Q 1. What led you to becoming an accountant?

As a student, I was always good with numbers. Math class was my favourite subject and I had a passion for problem solving. As a person, I'm detail-oriented, well-organized, proactive, and have integrity. Accounting always felt like the right choice for me. It has a clear career path, there's room for growth, and you're always learning.

Q 2. What is the best advice that someone at the MUHC ever gave you?

Ask for help. Your teammates don't always know your workload or what you might be going through. If you need help,  say something, don't suffer in silence.

Q 3. Tell us about working with your colleagues?

Having a good team and liking your colleagues has a huge impact on your job satisfaction, and I feel very fortunate to be able to say that I genuinely adore the group of people I work with. Both professionally and personally. We have a strong team of individuals who care not only about the quality of work they produce, but also  about how our team is perceived  as a whole. We're all very supportive, always ready and willing to help one another. I also happen to work with a bunch of comedians, so that definitely helps lighten our more stressful days!

Q 4.  How do you like to relax and unwind after a shift?

My job is very technical, so when I'm off the clock, I like to work the other parts of my brain, and also allow my brain the space to breathe. I  sing, so that is how I tap into my creative side. Also, after sitting at a desk for seven hours, I like to get my body moving, so I'll hit the gym. But my ultimate happy place is spending quality time with my family and friends, probably catching a basketball game.

Thank you, and all your colleagues, for all the great work you do. Join us in November to celebrate International Accounting Day!
