Multi-Organ Transplant Donation Program receives two prestigious honours
We’re pleased to announce that the Multi-Organ Transplant and Donation Program (MOTDP) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) received two important achievements: Health Canada Certification for the Living Kidney Donation Program as well as a nomination in the 2025 Awards of Excellence by l’Institut d’administration publique du Québec (IAPQ). Both milestones attest to the strength of the program, which strives every day to better the lives of patients and families affected by organ donation and transplantation.
Health Canada Certification
Health Canada’s rigorous inspection of the MUHC’s Living Kidney Donation Program was a success. The program has been Health Canada certified, meeting all regulatory requirements for ethical practices and clinical outcomes. For kidney donors and recipients, this demonstrates the program’s continuous adherence to national standards of excellence.
IAPQ Awards of Excellence
In 2022, the MUHC was designated a provincial centre for islet transplantation for severely ill patients with type 1 diabetes. These procedures have been performed within our walls ever since; however, the Islet Transplantation Program was not officially part of the MOTDP until recently.
The recognition by l’Institut d’administration publique du Québec (IAPQ) is prestigious, naming the Islet Transplantation Program as a finalist in the 2025 Awards of Excellence among other nominees spanning Quebec’s public administration sectors (including health and social services, education, municipal and provincial organizations). Finalists were selected for their top-tier practices and projects.
Congratulations to each member of the MOTDP team, and to their partners, for advancing the future of transplantation!
