Montreal General Hospital PACU receives 2025 Dr. David S. Mulder Trauma Award
We are pleased to announce that the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) of the Montreal General Hospital (MGH) has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Dr. David S. Mulder Trauma Centre Trauma Program Merit Award.
“What a proud moment,” says Elizabeth Joly, Clinical Administrative Coordinator of Perioperative Services. “Please relish in all the glory of what it is to be a PACU team member, how valuable your contributions are. Your hard work and energy benefit not just the trauma team, but more importantly, our community. Our patients. A truly well-deserved award!”

“I am so proud of the team, and honoured to share in this celebration with them,” says Georgia Niarchos, Director of Perioperative and Imaging Services for the adult sites. “PACU nurses play an essential role in providing emergent access to clinical care and support the smooth flow of patients throughout the institution. They are truly deserving of this recognition. Thank you to the Adult Trauma Program for acknowledging the exceptional work of the MGH PACU team.”
The award was formally presented during the 29th Annual Rocke Robertson Visiting Professorship in Trauma Surgery, which took place on Thursday, May 22, prior to the Grand Rounds presentation delivered by visiting professor Dr. Elliot Haut.
“On behalf of Dr. Khwaja, our Trauma Program Medical Director, Ms. Nancy Branco, our Trauma Program Manager, and the entire Trauma Surgery team, I extend our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude for everything you do,” states Dr. Jeremy Grushka, Trauma Surgeon, Surgical Intensivist and Co-Director of the MUHC Centre for Global Surgery.
Each year, the MUHC Adult Trauma Program presents an award to a team or individual that has had a significant impact on trauma services. This award reflects the PACU’s tireless efforts in caring for trauma surgery and critically ill patients during some of their most vulnerable moments. The MGH PACU team consistently goes above and beyond in high-pressure situations to maintain high-quality, safe care.
The PACU team plays an essential role in the success of the trauma program, and most important of all, improving patient outcomes. Their professionalism, dedication, and personal sacrifices ensure that trauma patients receive the surgical and postoperative care required at any hour—day or night.
