Dr. Ari Meguerditchian appointed by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Congratulations to Dr. Ari Meguerditchian, Surgical Oncologist at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), who has been appointed by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) as Vice-Chair of the Speciality Committee in Surgical Oncology. This nomination attests to the expertise and leadership exemplified by Dr. Meguerditchian, who is also a researcher focusing on breast cancer and melanoma.
“I'm very excited by this appointment, I also want to highlight that I'm not the only one on this committee from the MUHC: my colleague Dr. Sinziana Dumitra was also recently appointed as a member. The MUHC is at the right table when it comes to deciding the future of training in Surgical Oncology,” says Dr. Meguerditchian.
He will lead a team of oncology surgeons from all over Canada to ensure the competencies that trainees must achieve in order to graduate. Each committee is responsible for helping the RCPSC strengthen their subspecialty programs, and ultimately, their graduates. “Future surgical oncologists will have the best training based on the latest research on cancer and they will treat their patients to the highest standard,” says Dr. Meguerditchian. “Complex treatment options are made possible thanks to new research and innovation, which are my areas of interest.”
Of note, McGill’s Surgical Oncology specialty program currently led by Dr. Eliot Mitmaker, MUHC surgeon, has had full accreditation from the RCPSC since its inception. The accreditation process of the RCPSC is extremely rigorous, which demonstrates the strength of the program.
