The 2025 MDC Awards of Excellence

The 2025 Multidisciplinary Council (MDC) Awards of Excellence ceremony took place, highlighting the strength and impact of multidisciplinary services across the MUHC. The council is made up of over 2300 professionals, from 74 different job titles, ranging from physical therapist to psychologist to biomedical engineer.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, who demonstrate their leadership, dedication and professionalism to our institution!

1 - Outstanding New Professional Award: Elisabeth Plante

Élisabeth is an audiologist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Her role in managing the Quebec Newborn Hearing Screening Program (PQDSN) is central, and she also organizes training sessions for screeners across our network, with a direct impact on the quality of care. In just a few years, she has become an accomplished audiologist and a valuable asset to her team.

This award goes to someone who shows professional excellence and emerging leadership within their first three years of practice.

2 - Excellence in Professional Service Award: Catherine Ouellet-Courtois

Catherine is a psychologist whose expertise lies in treating the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) clientele. She has pioneered an intensive, hospital-based day program for OCD that has expanded access to specialized care in Quebec. She co-leads the development of a digital infrastructure initiative within the Mood and Anxiety program, designed to accelerate clinical research and enhance data-driven care.

This award goes to someone who improves patient care through evidence-based practices, strong collaboration, and meaningful leadership.

3 - Excellence in Teaching Award: Richard Lapointe

Richard is a model of excellence in clinical teaching at the MUHC. With nearly three decades of experience, Richard stands out for his rigour, calm demeanour, and generosity in sharing his knowledge, particularly in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, a demanding environment where he succeeds in making complex concepts accessible to every learner. Many students say that their experience with him was decisive in their career choice.

This award goes to someone who demonstrates outstanding academic or clinical teaching, builds strong connections with learners, and remains committed to their professional development.

4 - Excellence in Research Award: Don Nguyen

Over the years, Don has contributed to several publications and actively participates in ongoing projects. He plays a key role in developing research within the cochlear implant program at the MUHC. He recently presented a scientific poster in British Columbia and regularly shares articles and new evidence within the team. He is skilled at identifying relevant research avenues and encouraging the emergence of projects aimed at improving our clinical practices.

This award goes to someone who leads or collaborates on research projects, shares their work widely, and supports colleagues in developing research skills.

 

5 - Max Folkersma Award for Long-Term Service Award: Nancy Alarie

Nancy has dedicated an extraordinary 26 years to the Cystic Fibrosis team at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. She has been teaching Airway Clearance Techniques to Respiratory Fellows at the Children’s since 2011.  Her contributions extend beyond our hospital, having lectured internationally at the North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference, has been a part of an expert panel at the European Cystic Fibrosis Conference and has led workshops for healthcare professionals.

This award goes to someone with over 10 years of service, who embodies the MUHC spirit. Among their skills, this inspiring person has acted as a mentor and an example for colleagues.
