Architectural Expression: Future look of the Glen Site

After a year of intensive work finalizing architectural details for the Glen site, the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) has received Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough approval for the buildings' exterior architectural design. The design teams are now pleased to unveil your future Glen site.

“In collaboration with representatives within the MUHC and our partners at the McGill Health Infrastructure Group, we wanted to create an architectural expression that reflected our vibrant community of health care professionals, patients and researchers,” says Robert Hamilton, Senior Director, Glen Campus Development.

Vibrancy is indeed achieved; with deep blues and yellows and rusty reds, the new design is bright and conveys hope and optimism. Apart from giving the Glen site its dynamic look, the colours are also functional and will correspond to wayfinding signs inside the building for ease of movement. Making wayfinding easy has been key to the plans: the two-storey curving galleria encased in glass will be one of the main interior streets of the Glen site, leading patients, visitors and staff to elevators, care units, clinics, atriums, stores and cafés. The galleria will overlook a large landscaped plaza with gardens and walking paths, while letting natural light into the building. The generous curving main facades will create a welcoming character for the new MUHC at the Glen.

Once complete, the Glen site will become an important new landmark in Montreal, representing the innovation, teaching, research and cutting-edge health care that are provided at the MUHC.
