The MUHC Mental Health Mission is currently involved in conducting research aimed at improving services and outcomes for patients. Some studies are being conducted to further understand the genetic, biological and psychological factors that contribute to the development of mental illness.
Patient participation
Patients may be asked to participate in one of several ongoing studies, for example, a study to test the effectiveness of a new medication or a brain imaging study. It is important to note that anyone invited to participate in a study will be given extensive information on the objectives of the research as well as the risks and benefits of participating, and they will be asked to sign an informed consent form. Patients are free to refuse participation, and refusal will not affect treatment in any way.
